Service Description: 10-bed inpatient unit for seniors 65 years and older with acute and complex mental health, addiction and behavioral issues associated with indicators of frailty * provides specialized psychiatric assessment, treatment and intervention * led by a geriatric psychiatrist and staffed by an interdisciplinary team consisting of nurses, social workers, occupational therapist, recreation therapist and personal support workers

The goal of the unit is to manage behaviors associated with a mental illness by providing assessments and treatments, so that the client can return to their community or long-term care facility * prior to discharge, the team assists in the coordination of community supports to ensure the clients has a smooth transition back to their home

Fees: Medical services are covered by OHIP
Application: Most programs require physician referral
Eligibility / Target Population: Patients are admitted to the Seniors Mental Health Unit based on the assessment and recommendation of a THP affiliated psychiatrist * individuals over the age of 65 who are experiencing an acute mental health issue
