Service Description:

Offers a range of services for children and youth with complex needs
A Secure Residential Forensic Mental Health Facility for Ontario male and female youth who have significant mental health concerns. Youth can be admitted to Syl Apps for assessment and treatment through two different avenues:
Secure treatment - under the Child & Family Services Act (CFSA):
- provides secure treatment to youth who are at significant risk to themselves or others
- a provincial resource and as such, youth are referred and screened and if appropriate are admitted through Family Court Orders from all regions of the province
Ontario Review Board (under the Criminal Code of Canada):
- provides assessment and treatment to youth who are involved in the youth justice system who have been found not fit or not criminally responsible and are ordered to Syl Apps by the Ontario Review Board
- Syl Apps is designated as a hospital for the purposes of the Ontario Review Board
- the Halton Board of Education operates an on-site section 23 school
- licensed by the Ministry of Children Community and Social Services and accredited by Children's Mental Health Ontario (CMHO)
